Jaws and "The Thing Before Preppy"

Along the way, Spielberg captured the Vineyard in 1974 that was both an end and the beginning.

We rewatch Jaws every few years. And besides the obvious points, there are two themes that stand out.

I. Preppy Style

One can debate when “preppy” clothes were codified and introduced to the United States. But the wardrobes in Jaws forces that line to be at least as far back as 1975 (the year Jaws came out).

Obviously anyone from Greenwich wouldn’t roll their sleeves up past their elbows, but otherwise Tom Cassidy’s outfit is pretty dead on (Sorry, Chrissie).
