Whatever happened to Navy Blue + Kelly Green?

There are classic color combinations in the preppy palette that most people can probably rattle off. Navy and khaki. Navy and white. Navy and light pink and Navy and hot pink. Navy and lime. Navy and Hunter Green. (You may be sensing a theme) . The loudest and perhaps most famous one is pink and green.

If I may deviate, there are also other classic color combinations, depending on different materials. For cotton twill or canvas bags with leather handles and trim, for example, the two defaults are forest green canvas paired with Dark Brown leather, or Khaki canvas paired with a Chestnut leather, both with solid brass hardware. Think Orvis’ Battenkill luggage or Ghurka bags.

But what was perhaps the most salient of all, back in the day, was Navy and Kelly. This is the true New England “peppy” preppy combination.
