Lands’ End Canvas Tote Bag
"★★★★ (out of five) in Pink, with a Tennis Racquet Embroidery in Lighthouse Navy. ★★ (out of five) in almost every other combination." - Muffy Aldrich
“More tote than boat.”
I have received many requests over the years to do a review of the Lands’ End Canvas Tote Bags. I had never gotten around to it, as I saw no need to pivot from my tote of choice, the L.L. Bean Boat and Tote.
However, I have found a way to make the bags from Lands’ End tolerable, for at least one use case.
The Bad
First let’s get the bad out on the table. Lands’ End has two cardinal sins with regards to their Canvas Tote Bags. They are “imported” (**cough** outsourced **cough**), and Lands’ End sews their label onto the front of the bag.
There. Two strikes.
And the canvas is a wee bit floppy (but not flimsy, so not the third strike).
The Good
Now for the good. The Lands’ End bag — also made of Natural canvas — has an outside pocket as well as inside pockets. These are extremely useful.
And Lands’ End is producing them with some brilliant trim colors (bottoms and handles). L.L. Bean of late has, almost inexplicably and quite anathematically, a taste problem. With the exception of their regular offerings of Blue and Natural, season after season the Boat and Tote colors they offer are, at best, muddy and drab. (This makes me want to hoard my ‘green’ bags of past seasons even more.)
