In New England, it used to be that seemingly everyone went skating on ponds. And some years, all winter long.
My great grandparent’s house had salt water on the south side and fresh water on the north. While more of summer was spent on the ocean side, every winter, once the ice was completely frozen, the skating on the pond would begin.
