What Happened When I Tried Out L.L. Bean's Business Custom Embroidery Service for My Boat and Totes

I wanted to get a few new bags. I love the quality of Bean’s Boat and Totes, but couldn’t find good combinations trim colors and monogram colors. As I also mentioned this was in part because I have been frustrated over the last ten years or so at the the “bad taste creep” of L.L. Bean into the trim colors. I also like good swag, but always worry about the quality.

I decided to create my own burgee embroidery design to apply on my L.L. Bean Boat and Totes through the L.L. Bean Business division (https://www.llbeanbusiness.com/). This would be in place of monograms as their thread color options are not what they should be. As a result I could have an embroidery design with a color palette of my choosing, which I can then apply it to the blank canvas, if you will, of their totes.

So here is the process I followed.

I created a burgee design in PowerPoint in two colors. (I have been designing my own burgees over the years for our various boating endeavors, just for fun.)

What I sent them…

I went to L.L. Bean’s business site, created an account, and uploaded my two pictures, one navy and pink and one navy and green. (I exported them from PowerPoint as SVG files, but straight JPGs would have worked.) I asked the two different images to be put on three bags.

L.L. Bean charges $90 for a set up fee for embroidery of 10,000 stitches or less, and in two different colorways.

The first email I was sent had mistakenly substituted my star pattern with a missing character image. I got that resolved.

I had to point out the obvious missing graphic.
